Algarve Cup: Japan v USA

Highlights from the 2011 Women’s World Cup re-match between Japan and the USA. Won’t embed but click here to see extended highlights. Lots of chances at both ends before Japan put it away in the last five minutes with a header, from distance, off a corner. Shortly after Abby Wambach had been replaced by Sydney Leroux. Not saying Wambach would have prevented that goal but she’d likely have been marking up at the far post where it was scored from.

Noticeable how Japan looked pleased at the end but didn’t exactly jump up and down. Sort of as if they wanted to make sure they made it clear that they are the reigning World Cup champions so winning this game is hardly an upset in their eyes.
