Queen’s win women’s CIS soccer title with five Vancouver players

Thanks to Steve Fleck for point this out:

Not sure if you noticed but there are five Dunbar/Point Grey/Douglas Park – Vancouver Metro players (Julia Cory, Brienna Shaw, Victoria Gonzalez Milroy, Saffia Clemens and Joanna Jordon) on this year’s Queens CIS national championship team.

Great accomplishment and great to see it happening for young women who chose to combine their university soccer with an education at a top university. Always been puzzled by those who have multiple offers from universities and choose a second and third rate US universities to go to just because it’s a “full ride”. Let’s face it, in the end, almost everyone comes back to Vancouver after being away for university and if you’re looking to start a career, that Queens or UBC degree is going to be more relevant than a Business Management degree from the Bayou Institute of Banjo Strumming.

  1. Fred Cutler says:

Me too Gregor, always wondered why they’d go to the University of Tulsa or South Florida, especially the women who, sadly, have less chance to earn a living as a player.

  2. Queens Student says:

Three of the five never play.
